Brand and Corporate Communications Intern

As the brand and corporate communications intern, I was in charge of assisting in managing and orchestrating internal and external communications aimed at increasing the exposure  of Meredith’s iconic brands including: PEOPLE, Better Homes & Gardens, Parents, Sports Illustrated, InStyle, Food & Wine and Travel + Leisure.

Meredith Corporation selected me among the 2019 New York Women in Communications scholarship candidates and directly sponsored my award which included a full-time summer internship. My direct supervisor was Jill Davison, Vice President of Brand and Corporate Communications and Board Member of NYWICI.

Corporate Communications

Within my corporate communications, I was an essential part of managing different parts of Meredith's internal network. I drafted all newsletters that were distributed to all of the company's employees in the Detroit and New York City offices. The newsletters honored the achievements of all Meredith brands including notable coverage of new releases, any awards or honors that employees received and important executive updates.

In order to further honor the achievements of Meredith employees, I was able to interview leaders within the company (such as Editors-in-Chief, Managers, Directors, Vice Presidents) to write executive biographies for the company website. I also researched and submitted award opportunities for these employees. 

EatingWell

EatingWell provides its readers with the inspiration and information they need to make healthy eating a way of life. For this reason, it was critical that the brand's inaugural Future of Food Summit receive a lot of attention. I was in charge of drafting the press release that announced the initiative and sent pitches to journalists to secure coverage of the event which was taking place in September. In order to boost attendance, I also send out media advisories to media outlets, published calendar listings, and researched influencers focused on sustainability issues to reach out to. To get the proper messaging, I attended regular meetings with EatingWell editors and their partner for this event, the International Food Information Council.

Food & Wine

Summer is an exciting time for Food & Wine, as the brand hosts its annual Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado in June. In order to prepare for this event, I was charged with drafting press materials such as a press release, fact sheet and pitch letters to send to reporters who would be in attendance. The event received wide coverage which I was able to track, and had notable guests such as Martha Stewart, Dwayne Wade and Ruth Reichl.

Better Homes and Gardens

Better Homes & Gardens is a trusted lifestyle brand that provides expert advice on gardening, recipes, home improvement and more. I was fortunate to be able to continuously pitch highlights from various issues, build strategic media lists and write press releases on various announcements such as the brand's annual Stylemaker Event.  I also created a year-long public relations plan in collaboration with my supervisors and the Editor and Chief of Better Homes and Gardens.
